Onwards

First off I thought about issues dealing with identity and surveillance.
I read "1984" by George Orwell and "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley.
The future presented in different ways both terrifying.
I know this is from my other more personal blog but I think it applies.
"1984" in my opinion is already happening,I'm creating art work about it, we are constantly placed under surveillance,"Big Brother" is invading our homes and "Thought Police" in a weird way exist through advertising and the media, controlling our opinions and thoughts about products and people through what is essentially propaganda.Welcome to being a barcode,a product, in the infamous words of Tyler Durden "You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are the same decaying organic matter as everyone else, and we are all part of the same compost pile."
Charming right?"
This work started with looking at fingerprints and how we are constantly monitored by the government and other social institutions. In my purse I have a drivers license,a student ID for my university,a debit card and 3 store loyalty cards and all of them can be used to find out different information about me.My full name,,address,
likes,dislikes,where I study,even what I look like.
Fingerprints are our natural ID cards, we all have unique fingerprints just like our iris patterns are unique. But there is a problem with creating art work out of fingerprints they are very difficult to take without buying specialist equipment and until someone gives me a few hundred pounds for a electronic fingerprint scanning machine using fingerprints on the scale I wanted to would not be possible due to the nature of ink prints being so unclear and easy to smudge/blur.
This lead me to thinking that fingerprints are natural barcodes and everyone could be barcoded in the same way that we are identified by numbers in most aspects of our lives.
We have Natonal insurance, pin, account,NHS numbers, I have a student ID number.

You are numbers

You Are a Barcode.

Welcome to my work.
